Our research has found that two main types of slots players exist. Some minor slot behaviors may exist but two are most prevalent.

Persistent Player

This type of slots player is the one that believes the win is right around the corner. Any second now the slot machine will roll over and all the coins will be flying out and you will be rich.

The player has either seen a person playing a slots game for a while with no payouts or alternatively they have been depositing funds into a slots game and have yet to see any payouts. They know the next big win, or any win is due to payout. Probabilities are just that maybe the win is pending or maybe the slot machines random number generator is just not tuned into the players 'psyche'. The rush is that if they leave after depositing so much money in the machine it will erupt and the payouts will be often and large. Makes sense if you have lost $200.00 and have yet to win. The machine must pay.

In the old days when a payout occurred it players would feel the coins to see if they were hot or cold. If the coins where hot then the slot machine had not paid out in a while and to the chaser this was good as the machine was do. The heat of the machines lights, etc would eventually heat the coins.

Why do players believe that if they see a 7 on the first pay line, a 7 on the next pay line and then when the next reel has a 7 below the pay line they feel that was close - the next spin should be the one that lines up the 7's? News flash the next spin could be blank, blank and blank on the pay line.

The Chaser

When playing a particular machine because it has kicked out some winners may leave you to believe that another is around the corner.

Alternatively the player believes the slot machine is not one of those machines that never pay. Players feel more comfortable and confident because the have been reinforced with a win and gain trust in the machine. A sense of comfort exists between the slot machine and the player.

Whether the Chaser or the Persistent player, either way the player can make an argument to support there play style. Nor does the style get amplified whether playing a progressive or a regular slots. Players feel they can rationalize for the manner in which they play.

In fact the truth of the slot machine payout is simple. A random factor exists in every machine. Every slot machine is designed to have a certain percentage paid out and a certain percentage it keeps. Examples do exist where a brand new slot machine that is just placed on the floor will deliver a jackpot to a player in the first spin but more likely it is that the probability of the win taking a million or more spins and the actual jackpot will be won around that number.
