Some History on Video Poker
Poker machines manufactured by Sittman and Pitt of Brooklyn first appeared in 1891. The early games were coin-operated machines that featured five drums with 10 cards each that would spin and stop to reveal the player's hand. If a winning hand was spun, the player would usually be awarded drinks or cigars from the establishment that hosted the machine. In 1901, Charles Fey introduced an innovation to the games: the ability to hold desired cards and draw replacements for the others to improve the final hand. With this innovation came the added benefit of player involvement in the outcome. The surge in popularity in these games waned in the mid 1910's, and continued to ebb and flow until the introduction of video terminals in the '70's.
With the introduction of computers in the 70's came computerized video slots and video poker. Multi-hand poker was introduced to video terminals in 1998 by an inventor named Ernie Moody, who developed a version that allowed the player to play three hands simultaneously.
The games and computing have evolved to the point where you can now sit in the comfort of your home and play exciting games over the Internet at numerous online casinos. The quality of the graphics is becoming more and more realistic and the speed of play is very stimulating with today's high-speed Internet services.
